With
Voltron - Collection 7 confirmed to be streeting this coming Tuesday (
January 27th), we've gotten word from Media Blasters and World Events Productions that there's been a bit of a delay with
Voltron - Collection 8. Previously
reported to be coming out on March 31st, this final volume of the show's regular episodes (with the last of the run for the Vehicle Force team's adventures) has been rescheduled for release on
April 28th. No reason for the change was provided. Some retailers (including Amazon; see button link below) continue to show the old date as of this writing, but it is expected to be updated everywhere pretty soon.
Also, we've been getting questions from a few readers about whether there could possibly be any "Complete Series" release of the program to look forward to later on. Or even whether fans could look expect to see possible sets with "Complete Lion Force" and/or "Complete Vehicle Force" collections. We've asked the powers that be about all those possibilities, but there has been no word yet on whether any such configurations are being planned. We'll let you know if something like this happens, so stay tuned. Our thanks to the various people who wrote in and asked.
In the meantime, the studios DID have a comment on our own question, about whether it would be possible to release
Voltron in high-definition, on Blu-ray Disc. The answer is that it would "be do-able," but would require additional mastering from the film elements, and isn't currently part of the plans that Media Blasters has on the table at this moment. Anything is possible later on, though, so stay tuned and we'll fill you in if that ever comes to be!
While you wait, World Events asks us to remind fans to be sure to visit the official Voltron.com website, where they are celebrating the show's 25th Anniversary this month. They have also told us that they have worked with the Sony Minisodes people to create bite-sized episodes of classic
Voltron, which will soon be added to Voltron.com for you to see. To me, nothing beats the real, complete episodes, and DVD is the best way to get that! But if you've only got a few minutes to spare, and need a quick fix to feed your
Voltron addiction, then this might something you'll want to check out.
