Earlier this week we
reported about an Amazon listing (see button link, below) to pre-order Timeless Media Group's
May 25th release of
The Virginian - The Complete 1st Season: Collector's Edition Tin. TMG has been in touch with us since then, painting a more complete picture of the situation with the full-season tin set, versus the pair of half-season sets we had previously reported.
The two half-season sets each contain 6 DVDs per package, for a total of 12 discs. Amazon's listing for the complete first season gave a total of 10 discs, making a number of our readers inquire about whether any material would be missing, since there would be two less DVDs in the package. We checked in with TMG on this, and found out the following: on the half-season sets, each package comes with 5 DVDs of restored and remastered episodes, and one bonus disc full of interviews. On
Season 1, Part 1 the interview on the 6th disc is with show star James Drury. On
Season 2, Part 2 the interviews on the bonus DVD are with co-star Gary Clark, and guest stars Robert Fuller (
Laramie, Wagon Train, Emergency!) and Peter Brown (
The Lawman, Laredo).
For
The Virginian - The Complete 1st Season: Collector's Edition Tin, there will actually be a total of
11 DVDs in the package: the same 10 episode-filled discs as found in the split-season sets, and an 11th bonus disc which contains ALL the interviews found on the
Season 1, Part 1 and
Season 1, Part 2 bonus discs...they're simply putting all those extras onto a single disc. So nothing will be missing if you buy the collectible tin. In fact, besides the tin packaging, you'll even get something with it that you can't get on the half-season sets: an additional interview, with Roberta Shore (who played "Betsy Garth" in the show). That will be on the 11th bonus disc as well.
We had previously informed you that the
Season 1, Part 1 and
Season 1, Part 2 sets would be available in early March, exclusively for members of Sam's Club and Costco stores, and via TMG's website. Will those half-season sets still be available at retail later? Yes, TMG is still hopeful that this will be the case, because they would like fans to have options to get the half-season set OR the complete first season, whichever is best for them. In the meantime, there are no plans to release
