A week and a half ago we brought you
an update from Timeless Media Group about their plans to release DVD sets of
The Virginian - Season 1, Part 1 and also
The Virginian - Season 1, Part 2. Each separate 6-disc collection would make up the entire first season of the classic show starring James Drury. These were originally planned for general retail release on the same date, March 9th, but in our most recent story (in which we had our first look at the package art for both sets), TMG informed us that these would be exclusive to the Sam's Club and Costco members-only chains. They hinted to us that a general release date for each package would be determined for later in the year.
We haven't heard back from TMG so far, but in the meantime we've noticed some changes at Amazon that certainly have an impacts on this situation! The pre-order listing there for
Season 1, Part 1 has been removed within the past 24 hours. The
Season 2, Part 2 listing is still there, though, and still showing the old (incorrect) March date...at least as of this writing, anyway. The HUGE news, though, is a brand-new pre-order listing for
The Virginian - The Complete 1st Season: Collector's Edition Tin. This is described as a 10-DVD set (which, interestingly enough, makes it two discs fewer than the total among the half-season sets) which will ship on
May 25th. Cost is $79.98 for 2370 minutes. Here's the studio description at Amazon's listing, followed by their picture of the packaging:
The Virginian - The Complete First Season - 10 DVD Set - Fully Restored and Digitally Remastered - Full Color Episodes - over 39 Hours! Packaged in a Collector's Edition Tin! Owen Wister's 1902 western novel The Virginian was one of the first great novels of the American West. Set in the semi-mythical town of Medicine Bow, Wyoming in the 1890's, it chronicled the lives and relationships of the people who came west and settled the wild land. Starring James Drury in the title role,The Virginian was the first 90 minute television western, airing in prime time on NBC from 1962-1971.
