Since early last year, Timeless Media Group has been releasing
The Virginian on DVD, the classic western show starring James Drury along with many other well-known names. The NBC program ran for a total of 9 seasons, with the final season being renamed as "
The Men From Shiloh." So far TMG has put out the first 4 seasons of the series. What's next?
Yesterday one of our readers, Mark Browning, asked Jame Drury himself
at Drury's Facebook page (see the screen capture at bottom) about
The Men From Shiloh. but it wasn't actually a DVD question! Mark was inquiring why the program's final season wasn't included in the show's reruns airing on the Encore channel. Drury's assistant, Karen, responded to Mark's question with some awesome DVD-related news:
"Mark, Encore didn't buy the license from Universal Studios to show MFS. Timeless Media did buy license to release all nine seasons of The Virginian which includes MFS. Timeless Media is scheduled to release MFS on DVD mid-October. "
We checked in with our friends at TMG to confirm this information, and we were told it's 100% accurate. What's more, it's just one of two releases they are putting out around that time!
Our contacts tell us that they are indeed putting out "
Men From Shiloh" around mid-October. The date, cost and details haven't been finalized yet, but they're getting those specifics hammered out and expect to formally announce the title soon. "Why do a DVD jump to the final season of
The Virginian?," I asked. I was told that it's precisely BECAUSE those episodes aren't airing at the Encore channel, and fans want to see them, so they are striking while the iron is hot.
But the ninth and final season won't be alone. Timeless understands that people also want to continue their DVD adventures where they left off, so TMG is ALSO preparing a 2011 release of
The Virginian - The Complete 5th Season!! They hope to have it out at the same time as
Men From Shiloh, but again the specifics haven't been finalized so we're waiting on the official announcement with all the formal details. One tidbit that was mentioned to me, however, is that TMG would like to put both titles out in the collectible "tin" packages we've seen on past releases. We'll let you know how that goes! Our thanks to TMG for the speedy response and all the info, and we're also thankful to the many readers who e-mailed us about the Facebook post (including the original inquiring person, Mark Browning himself). Stay tuned for updates!
