With all the news of DVD set delays lately (look for an editorial about that soon!), it's a mystery that any DVD maker wouldn't want to get the word out that their releases are available earlier than originally planned! Yet FirstLook Home Entertainment - who did a great job of alerting the world when they got the license to bring
Unsolved Mysteries to home video - didn't really communicate much that the second and third volumes of the series got moved up to earlier street dates.
How early? Well, after the first volume -
UFOs - was released last week on 9/7, we didn't expect the second volume (
Ghosts) until the early part of October. But FirstLook has officially changed the release date to
9/14...yep, this past Tuesday! The
Ghosts set is already available to buy in stores, and includes 34 segments including: Queen Mary Ghosts, Voice From the Grave, Black Hope Curse, Highway Vision, Civil War Ghosts, Lizzie Borden's House, Mary Celeste, Gettysburg Ghosts, Lake Wales Haunting, Mystery Hum and more. There are also special features like an introduction by Terry Dunn Meurer and John Cosgrove, a Special Tribute to Robert Stack, Behind the Scenes: The 200th Solve, and Audio Commentary for Select Episodes by Series Producers, Creators, and Directors. It's a 4-disc set running at about 360 minutes.
The 3rd volume,
Miracles, has also moved up in street date. Instead of waiting until November, as originally planned, you'll be able to buy it on
10/26. Nice, eh? And it will be another 4-disc set that has 33 segments including: The Miracle of Lourdes, Shroud of Turin, Angels, Powers of Prayer, Christmas Miracle, Healing Touch, Life Saving Pets, Image of Guadalupe, Money From Heaven and others. Extras on this will include the aforementioned Robert Stack tribute, commentary tracks, and a similar introduction as the previous volumes.
Our thanks here to reader Matt Wilson for being alert and letting us know about the date changes. We've started going through the first volume here, and let me tell you that we are impressed so far with the crisp picture, that looks just as good as the original broadcast. This weekend we'll pick up the next volume in the series, and we're looking forward to the continuation of the series on DVD in 2005. We'll have more for you soon about the next wave of releases:
Psychics, Bizarre Murders and
Legends. Stay tuned!
