Underdog DVDs have been released so far, starting with
"Collector's Edition" in 2000 and then
"Chronicles" in 2001. After the release of those first two, fans complained that something was missing: the non-
Underdog cartoons! When
The Underdog Show was on TV, there would always be an
Underdog installment at the beginning and at the end, but in the middle would be cartoons from
Go-Go Gophers, Tennessee Tuxedo, Commander McBragg, The Hunter and others. So, on the 2002 release of
Underdog - Nemesis, they included 11 bonus shorts from among these cartoons. No new
Underdog DVDs have come along since then.
Mind you, these other cartoons were popular in and of themselves. Not at
Underdog levels of popularity, to be sure, but still good enough to spawn some of them into their own separate series. Primary among these were
Go-Go Gophers and
Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales. The latter actually started on its own a year prior to
Underdog, got included in the new show, and was well-known for the voice acting work of
Get Smart's Don Adams (who sadly passed away just a couple of months ago) as the persnickety penguin in the title role. Another popular actor who did voice work in those cartoons was
F Troop's Larry Storch as Phineas J. Whoopee. We can't overlook mentioning Bradley Bolke as the voice of Chumley, Tennessee's walrus friend.
Now Classic Media and distributor Sony BMG are preparing a couple of releases that focus on these two cartoons. Each is a single-disc item which will list for $12.95, and both are already available for pre-order on DVDPlanet.com! The titles are
The Best of Go-Go Gophers and
The Best of Tennessee Tuxedo, and they have a pre-order price at DVDPlanet of just $9.07 each. The ship date for both is
March 7th.
Cover art and other details are not available just yet, but stay tuned and we'll bring that to you just as soon as we can. WHOOPEE!
