Waaay back in July 2006 we brought you
this report, and
this one as well, giving you the run-down on BCI's plans for the Filmation library properties they had licensed from Entertainment Rights. Among those plans were for two different "volume" releases of
The Cat Pack. These DVD titles would include Filmation's
The Secret Lives of Waldo Kitty cartoon, and also Filmation's
Fraidy Cat.
For those of you who don't recall (we didn't; we had to look it up!),
Fraidy Cat cartoons originally aired as part of the
Uncle Croc's Block series. This program was a live-action parody of a kid show, starring Charles Nelson Reilly (
The Ghost & Mrs. Muir) as "Uncle Croc" (the host who didn't want to be there), Alfie Wise (
B.L. Stryker) as "Mr. Rabbit Ears" and Jonathan Harris (
Lost In Space) as the guy who ran the show. During the live-action show they would cut to cartoon segments, and one of the regular segments was
Fraidy Cat. "Fraidy", voiced by Alan Oppenheimer ("Skeletor" on
He-Man) was on the last of his 9 lives, and various ghosts - many of them voiced by Lennie Weinrib (
H.R. Pufnstuf, "Hunk" on
Voltron) - tried to get him to use up his final life.
BCI had long ago quietly canceled their plans for the
Cat Pack DVD releases, decideding that there wasn't enough interest in these cartoons packaged as big special sets full of bonus materials (which were already produced). But now we've learned that
Fraidy Cat will finally come home in another form!
This past Tuesday BCI had released
Frightfully Funny, a 4-disc set that had selected episodes of
Groovie Ghoolies and Filmation's version of the
Ghost Busters on it. Now we've learned that BCI is following that up on
October 21st with
Frightfully Funny Volume 2. This new collection will have more selected episodes of
Groovie Ghoolies and
Ghost Busters, and also add selected cartoons for
Fraidy Cat as well. There won't be any bonus material on it, just the cartoons, but the cost will be only $19.99 SRP. Here's a look at the package art:
