Ultra Seven - The 1967 Ultraman Follow-Up Show Gets a 'Complete Series' from Shout!

6-DVD set will be available at retail in mid-December

In the past, both 1966's Ultraman and 1996's Ultraman Tiga have been represented on DVD, but none of the other shows in the long-running tokusatsu-style series of programs. Now Shout! Factory is bringing us the 1967 follow-up to Ultraman, with their December 11th release of a DVD set for Ultra Seven - The Complete Series!

Sometimes stylized in America as "UltraSeven" or "Ultra 7" (or even sometimes just as "Seven"), the six-member Ultra Garrison leads the fight against an alien invasion, and is joined by an extraterrestrial being from the Land of Light in the Nebula M-78 (the home of Ultraman, too) who takes on the human name of Dan Moroboshi...but goes into battle with them as the seventh member of the team: Ultra Seven! Dan/Seven also makes cameo appearances in many of the follow-up shows in the Ultra series of programs.

Priced at $49.97 SRP, this 6-disc set from Shout! will 1140 minutes, and with that running time we presume (we could be mistaken!) that it will have all 49 episodes that were produced...including the "banned" 12th episode, "From Another Planet with Love" (a.k.a. "Crystallized Corpusels"). The reason for the ban was because the episode featured aliens sickened by radiation, which would be considered insensitive to Japanese who were affected by the atomic bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. However, that episode did air in overseas markets, including - reportedly, in any case - on TNT in the USA during the mid-90s. So it seems like it should be expected on this release. We'll try to find out for sure...stay tuned!
