When we
last talked about The New Twilight Zone (accurately called "
The Twilight Zone (1985)," but we'll refer to it as "NTZ" for now), the report was that the first season release had been pushed back to August 2004.
Now Image has pushed back the release to November, but for very good reasons. A source, who we won't name, stated that "
The reason for the delay is that we're arduously working on getting the stereo tracks for the show. We currently have Mono tracks of the show in-house, but are close to getting the stereo tracks. Hence, the delay." We agree that the wait will be well worth it.
Fangoria magazine
is reporting that the intended street date for NTZ's
Season 1 is 11/2/04, which is more specific than our sources at Image were ready to be. Until they nail down production issues, they won't be tied down to a date. Image also states that "Seasons 2 & 3 are indeed on a single box. The release date of that set depends on when the first season set is released."
Fangoria says 1/25/05, but we know that it's impossible to believe any date until the production team wraps up their end of things. So please take dates from
Fangoria (and
Mondo-Digital as well) with a grain of salt. It's all tentative right now, according to people close to this project. Once a solid date is set in stone for NTZ, we'll let our readers know about it, of course.
Pricing is also tentative, and could be subject to change. But the current line of thinking is that the two box sets could SRP in the range of $70 each, according to separate sources. Again, that's not set in stone either, but it should give our readers an idea of where in the spectrum this will fall.
Will it be worth it? Absolutely. The production team is working hard to make this a great presentation, as evidenced by their dedication to try to get the stereo tracks. Even if that particular item turns out to be impossible, rest assured that they are working on a sweet lineup of extras on this one. Commentary tracks are definately included, including rumors of a couple by none other than Wes Craven! He's not the only one, either, as there are around a dozen episodes getting commentary tracks. Interviews and photo galleries also are being planned on. Fans agree that NTZ wasn't as good as the original, but it was a solid effort with great science fiction and strong writing. "Shatterday" is often said to be as fine as anything from the original Rod Serling version. This will be a treat for
Zone fans. Stay tuned for more updates, as information becomes available.
