Late last November we
spilled the beans that Image Entertainment was working on a high-def Blu-ray Disc release of the original Rod Serling classic,
The Twilight Zone...that it would join Image's DVD release of Boris Karloff's
Thriller in creeping folks out in the Fall 2010 timeframe.
Then this past weekend some new rumors came to our attention: that Image Entertainment had canceled all of their TV-DVD projects, and had "secretly" declared bankruptcy, etc. While the studio's business issues aren't really our concern, how they affect the releases of TV shows for home video IS. So without getting into the company's balance sheets and so forth, we checked with our in-the-know industry contacts to find out whether the
TZ-on-BD plans really were k.o.'ed for business reasons.
The answer we were given by somebody who DEFINITELY is in a position to know is that the high-def Blu-ray release of
Twilight Zone is absolutely still in the works (and the DVD release of
Thriller along with it, by the way...nor are they bankrupt, we're informed). What's more, Amazon.com has now begun taking pre-orders for the
The Twilight Zone - Season 1 on Blu-ray Disc.
This listing is prior to the official Image announcement of the title, though, so instead of a street date Amazon only says "
This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives." Pricing is available, however, at $99.98 SRP (you can, of course, lock in your copy at a discount if you order it using the above link). There are no other details available so far at Amazon's entry, nor is there cover art. Stay tuned, however, and we'll update you further on this release, just as soon as we find out anything more!
Our thanks to each of the readers who wrote us, about the rumors and about the Amazon listing. And of course our gratitude to our friends in the industry for clearing things up so definitively!
