Twenty seven years into his reign, Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is at the height of his powers. Shortly after the execution of Anne Boleyn he takes a third wife: Jane Seymour (Annabelle Wallis), a woman with inner beauty and noble character whom he clearly loves and who has a calming effect on the King.
But while her influence is welcomed by her new husband, her Catholic background causes disquiet and discomfort for Thomas Cromwell (James Frain), Henry's most senior courtier and the ruthless driving force behind the English Reformation. Cromwell has one aim: to confiscate the moral authority and worldly goods of the Catholic Church.
Showtime/Paramount's USA release, in DVD format only, of The Tudors - Season 3
has been up for pre-order at Amazon
for over three months now. Despite that, the listing there doesn't have a release date on it yet, because the studio hasn't formally announced the title. But the folks at Phase 4 Films, who own the Canadian home video rights for the series, have moved forward today with their own Season 3
announcement for north of the border.
Just like with the first two season sets, Phase 4 (using the Peace Arch label at the time) will make the Canadian release of The Tudors - The Complete 3rd Season: Uncut Edition
available in both standard DVD and in high-definition Blu-ray Disc, both arriving on November 10th
. Running time is 366 minutes for all 8 episodes. The DVD version comes on 3 discs, presented in anamorphic widescreen video, English - 5.1 Surround audio and with English subtitles, for CA$74.99 SRP. The Blu-ray version also comes on 3 discs, and is presented in high-def widescreen video (presumably looking as magnificent as the first two season-sets did on Blu-ray!), with English - DTS HD Master Audio, for CA$84.99 SRP.
Below is a list of the bonus material available for these releases, follow by pictures of the incredible-looking Blu-ray and DVD package art. My first reaction to this front cover design was "wow!," even though I recognize it as a variation of the marketing campaign for this season. It was still jaw-droppingly beautiful to me, and I hope each of you like it just as much! For the first two season sets, the key artwork from the front cover was the same in Canada as it was in the USA, so this may also be considered a sneak peek at the American box as well. First, though, here are those Canadian extras:
- Featurette: "On Set with The Tudors": Behind the Scenes
- Featurette: "Henry's Magnificent Palace": Exclusive Tour of Hampton Court
- Featurette: "Soul Queen Meets Tudor King": Joss Stone as Anne of Cleves
- Character Guide to Season 3
