Late last week we
showed you the updated cover art for CBS/Paramount's DVD release of Showtime's hit series
The Tudors - The Complete 1st Season, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers as "King Henry the 8th." Although
Amazon.com's pre-order listing has changed over the weekend to show a January 8th release listing, the official date showing at the studio's password-protected press site is still marked as Wednesday, January 2nd.
However, Canadians won't have to wait that long to watch this show, which airs on the CBC network north of the border. Peace Arch Home Entertainment of Toronto (owners of kaBOOM! Entertainment) is preparing a
November 20th Canadian DVD release of
The Tudors - The Complete 1st Season: Uncut Edition. So you'll get the 10 episodes with additional scenes (presumably making each episode longer), AND get them sooner..."a full three weeks before the season finale," according to the press release below. However, that portion must refer to Canada's CBC airings, since Showtime wrapped the first season for the USA crowd this past June.
All of this is not without additional cost, though. The CBS/Paramount release for the USA in January is US$42.99 SRP, and currently discounted to US$27.99 at Amazon.com. Meanwhile, the Peace Arch/kaBOOM
Uncut Edition for Canada in November is CA$74.99 SRP (converts to approx. US$75.95 as of this writing), and can be

THE TUDORS premiered on the CBC on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 and runs for ten consecutive weeks ending on Tuesday, December 4, 2007.

The DVD box set will consist of four discs containing all 10 episodes from the first season - uncut and unedited - and it will be released on Tuesday, November 20th, a full three weeks before the season finale. Special features will include cast & crew interviews, deleted scenes, bloopers, and promo reels.
The DVD release in CANADA will be supported by a nationwide public relations and media campaign including national print, transit advertisements, and as targeted spots during the broadcasts on the CBC.
