Two weeks ago we
had the heads-up that HBO is currently penciling in
True Blood - The Complete 1st Season, for release on DVD this coming
May 12th. That date could be subject to change, but right now that's what continues to be shown at HBO's online store. The studio hasn't announced the title to the media yet, however.
Still, fans will be happy to know that they can pre-order the title. And it doesn't have to be from HBO, either, if you don't want to pay the $59.99 SRP they're asking for it there.
Amazon has a pre-order listing posted, and while it doesn't show the release date yet (it says "
This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives."), it does discount the cost to just $38.99 (note that Amazon prices are subject to change at their discretion). Amazon also has an early look at cover art, which we show you below.
What about a Blu-ray format release of this show? Well, Amazon has a "just-in-case" listing for that (
here), which means that they'll take your name and e-mail address to let you know in case the studio ever announces such a release. Will that happen? The answer is "yes," according to our friend Josh Dreuth over at Blu-ray.com. Yesterday
Blu-ray.com posted word from HBO Home Entertainment president Henry McGee that "
the hit HBO drama 'True Blood' will receive a Blu-ray release this Spring." From that, we can surmise that the plan is to try their best to make that high-def release happen day-and-date with the DVD version in mid-May. Nothing's written in stone yet, though. The last we heard, HBO plans to release
Generation Kill on Blu-ray on June 16th, but that's not officially official yet either.
Stay tuned, though, and we'll keep an eye on it and we'll keep you updated. Here's the Amazon-provided front cover art for the DVD release of
True Blood - The Complete 1st Season:
