At the beginning of this month we
passed along reports from multiple sources, that at the recent BotCon 2008 convention Hasbro was indicating an August release of
Transformers: Animated - Season 1. This morning Hasbro's DVD distributor, Paramount Home Entertainment, made it official with a formal announcement that this will arrive on
August 19th:
In Transformers Season One, the Autobots swear to protect the ALLSPARK, their adopted new home Earth, and an 8-year old girl named Sari Sumdac, who not only becomes an honorary Autobot, but also a vital component of the team and the keeper of THE KEY, which serves an emergency power supply and healing source for the Autobots. While Optimus Prime and his team of Autobots are out fighting Earth-bound super villains and basking in their newfound superhero status, the real threat, the Decepticons, are out there regrouping, preparing to return with a vengeance and will stop at nothing to get their hands on the ALLSPARK and THE KEY.
As previously noted, this will NOT contain the triple-length pilot for the series, "Transform and Roll Out", which is
sold separately beginning June 17th. You'll get the rest of the season's episodes, though, from "Home is Where the Spark is" to "Megatron Rising Part 2". Running time given is 286 minutes.
This is a 2-DVD set, with full screen video and English - Dolby Digital audio. Pricing, extras (if any) and box art are not available yet. Stay tuned, though, and we'll bring you further word as we get it.
For those of you who caught our brief (but widely-read; thanks!)
mention last Saturday that "
the 2007 Transformers live-action film with Shia LaBeouf will be coming to Blu-ray Disc on September 2nd, in a 2-Disc Special Edition": note that Paramount has also officially announced that this morning, along with two different new DVD releases of the film, as part of something called the "Bring Home a Hero Promo". One of the DVD releases is listed as a "1-Disc w/ Optimus Prime Mask" package, while the other is a "2-Disc Deluxe Transforming Megatron Package". All three of those versions arrive September 2nd, just like we said. We're sure the sites which cover film releases on DVD and Blu-ray will have a LOT more to say about all of these items, including extras on the 2-Disc versions (there are a lot), so keep an eye out at those sites for that info today.
