Many of you will remember
this news from this past March, in which we passed on a message from Troma Films that their cartoon series,
Toxic Crusaders, was headed to DVD "in the second half of 2004."
This morning, though, we received the following note from Troma's Chris Lanphear, who has both bad news and good news for us:
We've decided to move the Toxic Crusaders series box set to our 2005 schedule. However, the Toxic Crusaders animated film (previously available only in the Tox Box) will be released separately on DVD on August 31, 2004.
So the complete series is delayed until next year, giving them time to get it done right. But to make up for it,
Toxic Crusaders - The Movie (which is really just the first four episodes cut together) will come out on
Aug. 31. Previously that item was only available as part of the larger, more expensive
Tox Box collection, which came with films that were enjoyable but not entirely suited for the kiddies. Kudos to Troma for breaking this out separately while we wait for the rest.
Details like price and so forth aren't available yet, but we'll have those for you as soon as we can, so stay tuned. For now, here's the artwork to the old VHS release of the same item. This cover's from seven years ago, though, and there's no guarantee it will be used for the DVD. But it will help you get the idea of where they're going with this, so check it out:
My thanks to Chris at Troma for taking the time to make sure we knew about the change of plans. Again, stay tuned, and we'll let you know when we have more details about these releases.
