Franky, folks...I give up on this one.
Last August I
posted a story trying to run down the long and confusing announcement history for getting a complete run of
The Toxic Crusaders animated series...the current hope being Troma's plans for
The Complete Toxic Avenger box set. In that last report, I told you that Amazon was showing a September 5th "at last" release date for the title, and that the animated series would be included. Honestly, after posted that I forgot all about it, and never followed up to see if it actually got released at the time.
Then, the other day - to my shocked surprise - I got an e-mail from reader Andrew Houston that said this: "
After a very, VERY long time, Amazon.com has updated their listing for The Complete Toxic Avenger box set from being "not available at this time" to showing a pre-order date of April 29th. The disc count varies from 6 to 7 throughout the details and no longer mentions the animated series in the product description. Can you please try and confirm this release and the animated series?"
I was unsuccessful in getting ahold of anyone at Troma yesterday, but I did get in touch with a reliable retail contact of mine who's usually in-the-know about such things. He told me very confidently that none of his info mentions the animated series is included in this release, either. Just the items listed at Amazon.
So, until and unless someone at Troma shoots us a note proving to us otherwise, I'm going with "it's not going to be on there." Hopefully that's not the end of the story, but with the difficulty in getting this to fans, I have to believe it's a cursed project for some reason. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you all that, but please don't shoot the messenger!
