Almost two months ago we
had the scoop that
Tour of Duty - The Complete 1st Season was coming out on DVD this June. Since then we've had to hold off on releasing further information about this, until the studios' official announcement day arrived. Well, today is that day, so we finally have a release date, price, cover art, menu, and a couple of details:
Columbia Tristar today announces a
June 8 release date for
Tour of Duty on a 5-disc set that encompasses 21 episodes (including the pilot) in the first of its three seasons. This was the first time that the Vietnam War was depicted in a television series, and it tried to do so with a gritty realism. Series star Terence Knox, who is also known for his role as Dr. Peter White on
St. Elsewhere, won a Founder's Award for
Tour of Duty, voted on by participants in the now-defunct Viewers For Quality Television organization. Unfortunately the music for the series will be replaced; we're unsure if this includes the theme song.
$49.95 is the suggested retail price for 1003 minutes. It looks like there are no extras on this set other than bonus trailers, but then again the studio hasn't issued their press release yet today so perhaps we'll learn more from it.
