Universal, Trio and Bravo are rolling out a line of "
Brilliant But Cancelled" DVDs, and the first pair are coming out on
May 16th. The concept is fairly obvious: to collect episodes onto DVD from the short-run series that the networks cancelled but which the critics found to be truly special, despite the low ratings that got them cut. There are two releases coming first:
EZ Streets will get it's own disc, and then separately is
Crime Dramas, collecting a single episode each from 4 shows:
- Touching Evil (2004, USA Network, produced by Bruce Willis)
- Johnny Staccato (1959, NBC, produced by Everett Chambers)
- Gideon Oliver (1989, ABC, produced by Dick Wolf)
- Delvecchio (1976, CBS, produced by Steven Bochco)
This release runs 209 minutes in full frame 1.33:1 video.
Johnny Staccato, which you can catch a
trailer for (in case you've never heard of it and want to see what it's like), is in black-and-white while the other three are in color. Price is $19.98 SRP. Here's a look at the cover art:
