Re-join Captain Jack, Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones. This time the Torchwood team are faced with their fiercest threat to date: one which throws the future of Torchwood and the entire human race spiraling into danger. They battle against the odds, but do they stand a chance of saving mankind?
Back in mid-February we
passed along a rumor that the "3rd Season" (or series) of
Torchwood, which is actually a 5-part miniseries titled
Children of Earth, would be coming to DVD and Blu-ray Disc in North America this July. This morning word got out to retailers from the distributor that
Torchwood - Children of Earth, for both formats, would actually have a street date of
September 15th. Each was said to be a 2-disc set, running 300 minutes long with widescreen video, English Dolby Surround 5.1 audio and English subtitles. Pricing, detailed content and package art were not disclosed.
However, don't count on all of that just yet! We've spoken directly to BBC Video a short time ago to confirm the information about the DVD and Blu-ray releases, and their specs. In that conversation our contact explained that the specific release date not been determined yet, and that no info should have gone out at this time. We were also told that they would get any information pulled which was already circulating and might be in error. It was additionally made clear that the North American broadcast dates for the five
Children of Earth episodes have not even been announced yet.
Since that's the case, then we suppose it's fair to say that a home video schedule wouldn't be decided upon until those broadcast plans have been announced and made public. Once that happens, though, and the DVD and Blu-ray releases are finalized, we'll be back to you with the correct street date, and all the necessary specs, content and package art. "And you gotta be ready," as they say in the show, for when that info comes, so stay tuned!
