Last December we
brought word from R2 Entertainment that April would see the release of the
Tony Orlando & Dawn DVDs that they (and we) have been talking about since last Summer. Well, April's here...where are the DVDs? We've got an answer for you!
R2 has sent us an update on this, saying that the set is still on, but it had to be bumped to
August to allow enough time for the project. They're still planning on a 3-disc set, a best-of release entitled "
The Ultimate Collection". It will be packed with favorite moments from Tony Orlando & Dawn's hit CBS variety show, which ran from 1974 - 1976. As we've mentioned before, extras will include new interviews and commentary with Tony, Joyce and Telma, a Tony Orlando & Dawn video "jukebox" and more.
The plan is still to tie this DVD release - first time the show's come to home video! - in with the first-ever CD release of the talented group's catalog of albums. Plus don't forget that a Christmas CD is also on the way, produced by none other than Grammy-winner Michael Omartian. Omartian has worked with the likes of Donna Summer, Rod Stewart, Christopher Cross, Amy Grant, and others, so he know's what he's doing! I realize that the last part isn't strictly TV-on-DVD news, but I'm excited and I hope you will be, too. Stay tuned, and we'll bring you more about the DVD release just as soon as the release starts to take it's final form.
