Single-Disc DVD Features 14 Classic Theatrical Cartoons

BURBANK, CA (February 19, 2009) - The best of popular animated cat and mouse duo Tom and Jerry is showcased on Tom and Jerry's Greatest Chases Volume 2, a new DVD to be released by Warner Home Video (WHV) June 16, 2009. This entertaining collection features some of the most outstanding Tom and Jerry theatrical cartoons from the 1940's and 1950's, including Academy Award®-winning and nominated shorts. This volume is comprised of 14 memorable cartoons and will retail for $14.97 SRP.

Originally created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, Tom and Jerry centers on the never-ending rivalry between Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse. The plots of each short usually center on Tom's attempts to capture Jerry. Jerry however, is clever and quick on his feet so Tom hardly ever manages to catch him. The original series is notable for having won the Academy Award® for Best Short Subject seven times. The first Tom and Jerry short was released theatrically in 1940.

Tom and Jerry Greatest Chases Volume 2 features 14 shorts directed by Hanna-Barbera that were originally released between 1943 and 1951. Two featured shorts, including Mouse Trouble (originally released in 1944) and Quiet Please! (originally released in 1945) became Oscar® winners for Best Short Subject, Cartoons in 1945 and 1946, respectively. Other shorts featured on the DVD include Sufferin' Cats!, Baby Puss, The Million Dollar Cat, The Bodyguard, Flirty Birdy, Cat Fishin', The Invisible Mouse, Heavenly Puss, Jerry and the Goldfish, Cue Ball Cat, Slicked-up Pup and Jerry's Cousin.

"There are well over 100 classic Tom and Jerry theatrical shorts in existence, and we hand-picked some of the very best to be showcased on this wonderful DVD," commented Amit Desai, WHV Vice President of Family, Animation & Sports Marketing. He added, "We think this title will be a big hit with consumers because it has multi-generational appeal. Adults appreciate Hanna-Barbera's beautiful, classic animation and clever story lines while kids enjoy Tom and Jerry as characters and their outrageous antics. We are pleased to offer this entertaining collection to consumers."
