Remember how, a bit over a month ago, we
encouraged you to vote in a poll that would help determine which episodes would end up on the upcoming
The Best of the Thunderbirds DVD? Well, the results are in!
"Fanderson," the website of The Official Gerry Anderson Appreciation Society, posted
this story with the results of the similar poll their site ran, which was then combined with A&E's poll results to come up with the list of episodes that will be on the
Best of DVD. They didn't directly list the episodes, but if you read carefully then you'll infer that the DVD will contain:
- "Trapped In The Sky"
- "Attack Of The Alligators!"
- "Terror In New York City"
- "Sun Probe"
- "The Perils Of Penelope"
- "The Uninvited"
They also report that this DVD "will be released early in the summer." Don't forget that it's supposed to include never-before-seen Gerry Anderson interview footage, a brand-new featurette, "and more!" Part of that "more" will presumably be a trailer for the upcoming film.
With that new
live-action film about to debut in theaters this August (directed by none other than Jonathan (
Star Trek:TNG's "William T. Riker") Frakes in his forth cinematic stint behind the megaphone),
Thunderbirds fans are getting more and more hyped to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the show. So it will come as no surprise that A&E's
Best of the Thunderbirds DVD isn't the only disc coming down the pike.
Our friends at
DVDAngle.com were the first we saw to report that "MGM will unleash a pair of Gerry Anderson
Thunderbirds films...on 07/27." These animated feature films are the original series' spin-offs
Thunderbirds Are Go (1966) and
Thunderbird Six (1968). They'll be available separately for a list price of $14.98 each, or together in the
International Rescue Edition for $29.98 SRP. These are both special editions, chalk-full of supplements, so click that link and scroll down a tad to the appropriate paragraph, and see all the specs and extras listed there. These aren't actually episodes of the TV show, but rather they are cinematic sequels, and we usually don't report on that type of thing here. Still, we thought we'd spread a bit of cheer about those...
Thunderbirds supporters have wanted them for a long time!
We'll be keeping a close eye on the
Best of the Thunderbirds DVD from A&E, though, so stay tuned. We'll be back as soon as we can with an exact street date, cover art, and any other info we can rescue! Our thanks to Rich Kirkpatrick for passing along to us the link for the poll results...we appreciate it!
