A few weeks ago
we passed along to you an unconfirmed report that Boris Karloff's 1960 series,
Thriller, would be coming to DVD. We've confirmed the other day, from an independent third party source who spoke on condition of remaining anonymous, that Image Entertainment. has indeed licensed the show. Attempts to get additional information have not yet met with success, since the studio has not yet officially announced the project. Still, word seems to be making its way around the internet!
Backing up our info was
this post yesterday at the discussion forum area of the Classic Horror Film Board website (our thanks to reader Randy Jepsen for the heads-up). There, Tim Lucas ("Writer, Publisher/Editor of Video Watchdog," per his profile) confirms that Image has licensed the show (from Universal), and that the studio "
plans to release a single box set of the complete series sometime prior to Halloween next year."
Lucas goes on to say that for this 2010 release, he has already visited L.A. to meet screenwriter/film historian David J. Schow and director/cinematographer Ernest Dickerson, where they all recorded audio commentaries for a pair of episodes ("The Grim Reaper" and "The Premature Burial"). Lucas also mentions how "
the set will include isolated music tracks for every episode." Please head over to read his original post, and get the info straight from the source. In a follow-up post, Lucas also mentions another commentary participant, Larry Blamire.
It sounds like this won't be hitting the stores until a bit less than a year from now, so information certainly isn't finalized and anything we've reported here could be subject to change. There won't be details such as pricing or package art, either, until everything gets sewn up. Stay tuned, though, and we'll update you further as more information arrives!
