On the March 31st airing of the Barbara Walters talk show, 'The View', the guest star was Richard Chamberlain. Home viewers of that show are reporting that the studio audience was treated to complimentary DVDs of 'The Thorn Birds' starring Chamberlain, which co-host Star Jones mentioned she had already viewed over the course of a plane flight.
Since then we've been getting a lot of questions about this (and we appreciate David Coleman and David Mack for being the first to pass this on). Had a DVD been released in North America, and nobody noticed? Was this a sign of something impending?
Well, we naturally called Warner Brothers and asked for the skinny. The response was swift: These were a batch of bare-bones, feature-only screener copies of "The Thorn Birds" that were made up just for this edition of "The View." The miniseries is NOT currently on the schedule for North American
DVD release...not yet anyway. Warner does have the title in their sights, however, and wants to get it in stores sooner rather than later. No timetable has been set for a release, however...we can't even count for sure on a year ending in a "3."
