Just a few days ago we pleased to
pass along info posted at
DVDEmpire.com about the second DVD release of
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the original 1987 series). According to the online e-tailer, it arrives on
April 26th at an SRP of $14.98, but you can pre-order it right away for a mere $9.89!
The listing at DVDEmpire shows cover art that says "Season 2," and lists a 289 minute run time for 13 episodes. We headed over to
EpGuides.com and verified that the 2nd season did indeed show only 13 episodes, the same ones we listed last time in airdate order. But now Lions Gate has provided front and rear cover art for this release, and there were three things of interest that were revealed:
1) instead of calling this "Season 2," the box reveals that the accurate title is going to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Volume 2 instead. Considering that the 3rd season ramps up to 47 epsiodes, and the per-season episode count is erratic from year to year, it makes sense that Lions Gate would plan to break the future releases into "Volumes" rather than "Seasons."
2) The listing of episodes on the back of the box shows that these will be ordered on the DVD by production date, rather than airdate.
3) There will be no bonus episodes or any other special features on this release, which differs from the first DVD.
With that in mind, here is the front and rear cover art for
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Volume 2:
(By the way, for those who asked: my son Stephen had a fantastic, fun 7th birthday and was thrilled when he saw Gord's news that one of his favorites had a new DVD coming out, and that his birthday had been mentioned in it. Thanks for asking!)
