Lions Gate-Artisan has sent us the first officially circulated release with detailed information on the upcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (1987) DVD release. And we have GREAT news for you: An official running time of 110 minutes!
Yes, that's right: as we reported
last week, the studio was urged by many (including no less a person than the episodes' co-writer!) to bring us the entire, uncut pilot mini-series. With this official running time that represents the needed length for 5 uncut episodes, including that needed for individual opening- and closing-credits, the studio seems to be telling us that this is indeed what we are getting. THANK YOU, LIONS GATE-ARTISAN!
The press release that is being circulated has the following descriptions of the main programming and of the DVD Special Features:
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Volume One includes the first five episodes from the popular animated TV series, and the DVD features four additional never before seen bonus episodes. The first episodes introduce the turtles and their infamous foes, and explain how Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael became Ninjas.
DVD Special Features: The DVD features four additional never before seen bonus episodes including The Return of Dregg, The Beginning of the End, Mobster from Dimension X and The Day the Earth Disappeared.
Further specs on this release include 2.0 Digital Stereo in English, video in the orginal "Full Screen" presentation, and the already-known SRP of $14.99 for the DVD, plus of course its release date of April 20th. Note that the press release officially is titled "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Season One"
, even though the "now finalized" cover art provided with it doesn't have the "Season 1" wording anywhere on it (or even the "Volume 1" wording used in the Program Description quoted from the press release above):
It's also worth noting that the spine of that cover art shows a "CC" logo, indicating that this release is Closed Captioned for the hearing impaired, but that the press release actually mentions that it's NOT captioned. Huh. Hopefully this is just a typo on the release, and we'll find that the cover shown represents the true situation with that.
Note that the new version of the cover - an enhanced version of what we showed you earlier
- now features a bold banner at the top promoting that this release "Include 4 Never-Seen Bonus Episodes." There's a slight discrepency there, too, because the bonus episodes, as we reported previously
, actually have been seen in some markets (including, I'm told, all of New York City). So, while it's possible that these might not be "never-seen" by some of you, we can all still appreciate that we are getting this bonus content. Note that those four episodes are the 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 7th parts of the 8-episode-long "Tenth Season" mini-series written by Jeffrey Scott to put the wraps on this 10-year-long show. The vast majority of us who have never seen these productions will definately appreciate having them on DVD, and we hope we get to see the rest soon, too!
Our sincere thanks to our friends at Lions Gate-Artisan for getting this info to us so quickly, and for being able to provide such great news that is sure to make fans of the Turtles
very happy indeed. Despite what may seem like a couple of minor complaints above (nit-picks, really), this is a very exciting DVD release for many of us. Including fans like TVShowsOnDVD reader Errol Cleary; thanks for your great feedback on this "TMNT news tornado!" Stay tuned, of course, and if anything more comes up we'll be sure to let you know.
