Last September saw the release of
Tales of the Unexpected - Set 1: The Complete First Two Seasons on DVD. It featured the 9 episodes from the first season of the U.K. series, and the 16 episodes from the second season of the show. Roald Dahl, author of
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (which became the classic
Wonka movie that is being remade now with Johnnie Depp as Willie Wonka), wrote most of those episodes and also hosted the show personally for those first two seasons.
After the second season was done, John Houseman - best known as Prof. Kingsfield on
The Paper Chase - took over hosting the series. Those 3rd and 4th season episodes begin to come to DVD on
March 15th, with the release of
Tales of the Unexpected - Set 2: 23 Classic Episodes. $59.99 is the list price for this 4-DVD set with the running time of 575 minutes. You can
pre-order it at Amazon right now for just $41.99, though. Here's the cover art:
Note that the cover mentions "23 episodes" very plainly. However, online episode guides like
the one at TVTome.com shows that the 3rd and 4th season combines to a sum of 26 episodes. We don't know where the confusion is, but we presume that the folks at Acorn know what they're doing (we hope!) and we further presume that we'll see the other episodes on future releases.
Our thanks to far-away (Belgium!) reader Thanks Rudi Van Laer for his heads-up about this exciting release.
