A couple of months ago, we
reported that
Tales of the Gold Monkey star Stephen Collins had revealed on Twitter that he recorded bonus material for a DVD release of the series. We were cautious, though, because there was always the possibility that these extras could have been created for an overseas release, rather than one for sale in North America. That turned out to be the case, too! We soon found out that the U.K. branch of Amazon had a listing for a Region 2/PAL (European) release of
The Complete Series. Even that listing was later scaled back, though, because the studio - Fabulous Films - had struck a deal for the set to first be sold in the U.K. exclusively through the England locations of the HMV entertainment store chain. That is supposed to be available starting next Monday, which takes care of fans in the United Kingdom. Later on this month it will also be released in Australia (Region 4)...but what about the USA?
Today we were in touch with the head of the U.S. branch of Fabulous Films, and he gave us a terrific scoop! Fabulous intends to release
Tales of the Gold Monkey - The Complete Series in North America in
the 2nd Quarter of 2010 (springtime, roughly). It will include the original double-length pilot episode, plus all 20 regular episodes from the show's single season. Also included for certain in the Region 1 release will be a new 30+ minute Making-Of Documentary and interviews with cast and crew such as Stephen Collins ("Jake Cutter"), Caitlin O'Heaney ("Sarah Stickney White"), Tom Greene (writer/producer) and Harvey Laidman (director). Other bonus material from the U.K. release hasn't been confirmed for the domestic release yet, but if they make it (and I'm told there's a good chance they will) then you'll also see Commentary Tracks on 5 episodes, 3 different Photo Galleries (a Stills Gallery, Caitlin’s Original Costume Gallery, and an Artifacts Gallery), a Series Synopsis, and possibly a collectible booklet.
The final list of bonus material for the North American version of
Tales of the Gold Monkey - The Complete Series is still waiting to be finalized, though. As is package art, pricing and other details. Stay tuned, though, and we'll keep you informed as further developments occur!
