A 2001 release of Tales from the Darkside: The Movie has been the only sign of the popular anthology horror series on DVD for years now...but all that is about to change at last! This morning Paramount Home Entertainment has surprised us with an unexpected announcement for a February 10th release of Tales from the Darkside - The 1st Season!
This 30-minute horror/fantasy anthology series follows in the vein of The Twilight Zone. Each week presents another standalone story of horror fantasy, and/or science fiction. Some episodes are gruesome, a few are of a lighter comedic style. Like many such shows, Tales... adapted the work of famous genre authors of the period such as Harlan Ellison, Stephen King, and Clive Barker. Many episodes also featured veteran actors of the 40's and 50's that saw very little work in their later years.
The first season, running 533 minutes on this home video release, includes Vic Tayback, Keenan Wynn, Danny Aiello, Tippi Hedren, Justine Bateman, David Patrick Kelly, Bruce Davison, Brent Spiner, Christian Slater, Colleen Camp, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Harry Anderson, Alice Ghostley, Bud Cort, Carol Kane, Victor Garber, Jessica Harper, James Hong and many others. Stories this season were written by the likes of Stephen King, Robert Bloch, Harlan Ellison and David Gerrold. Video is presented in full frame, and audio is presented in English mono. Stay tuned for package art, and any other details we find out about this long-awaited release!
