For those of you who aren't in-the-know about
Taboo, it's one of the strongest performing series on the National Geographic Channel ("NGC") on Cable TV, and is now in its second season. The stated mission of this controversial show is to explore the diversity of the human race, and you can find out more about it at
the official Taboo website. It's a fascinating look at different cultures around the world, and how one culture's "taboo" may be another culture's way of life.
National Geographic and Warner Home Video bring the first season of the show home on DVD, with 13 episodes on 4 discs. Those episodes are: "Tattoo," "Witchcraft," "Healers," "Drugs," "Food," "Bloodsports," "Voodoo," "Marriage," "Death," "Sexuality," "Tests of Faith," "Rites of Passage" and "Evil Spirits."
Beyond the episodes, there are a few extras to be found on this complilation: an interactive feature called "Taboos from
Around the World," the "Chez Taboo Exotic Food Menu," and a
photo gallery. The two interactive features can be previewed right away at the official website mentioned above. Here's the box art, followed by the studio's description of the show:
Complex and controversial, this mesmerizing hit series offers an insider's view of closed worlds traditionally off-limits to outsiders. Witness stunning stories about rituals and traditions so shocking that you can't help but be attracted to them. Taboo
crosses the barriers of modern society and explores the diversity of the human race where the secret, sacred, and eccentric are part of the everyday experience of humanity.
