A couple of weeks ago we had the
great news that
Swingtown - The 1st Season is coming to DVD this December. We got the early word about it from Amazon's early pre-order listing, which you can see using the button link below. Now CBS and Paramount Home Entertainment have formally announced this release, and thanks to their early press info, plus their alert file sent to retailers, we've got a lot more information about what you'll be getting!
First off, it looks like Amazon's release date is off a bit. While they were (and still are, as of this writing) showing a December 16th street date for
Swingtown, the official studio info to both press and retailers says this will arrive on
December 9th. The 4-disc set will contain all 13 episodes from the show's first season, plus bonus materials that includes "
brand new audio commentaries and special features that delve deeper into the show's incredible music, costumes, and spot-on 1970's sets." Groovy!
Video will be in widescreen, and audio is going to be delivered in 5.1 Surround Sound. Cost is showing at Amazon as $40.99 SRP, but you can pre-order it from them at a discount. Below you'll see the studio's description of this release, plus an early "temp art" look at the direction they may be going in with the front cover art. Needless to say, this is subject to change...and it probably will, since it doesn't even say "The 1st Season" anywhere on the current text in that graphic. Stay tuned and we'll bring you the final box art, once it's available.
As America celebrates its 200th birthday, two generations of friends and neighbors in a Chicago suburb explore new freedoms and seek connections with each other in the midst of the socio/sexual revolution. This new period drama takes viewers back to the 1970s for a look at suburban households testing the murky waters of sexual revolution, following swingers throughout open marriages, "key parties" and other extravaganzas.
