Misha Collins joined the cast of The CW's
Supernatural at the beginning of the show's 4th year, playing the angel "Castiel" in many of the episodes broadcast so far this season. Counting the one from last night, 13 episodes have aired up until now, out of 22 which are planned for this season's run. So we've still got a long way to go before a DVD release, right?
Despite that, though, the folks at the "Misha Collins Fan" website Misha-Collins.net have
posted yesterday a look at the possible package art for this set! They say on the site's front page that "
The U.S. Supernatural Season 4 DVD Cover Art was released today. It’s absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait to see what the back looks like. I’m so glad they included Castiel!" The picture depicted there shows 6 discs displayed on the right-hand side of the box, which indicates a 6-DVD collection.
At this time we should point out that Warner Home Video, which is the studio who releases
Supernatural on DVD in the USA (and other parts of the world), has not provided any cover art to the press for
Supernatural - The Complete 4th Season. Nor, to the best of our ability to determine, has it been given to retailers so far, either. Considering that the previous season sets for this program have all been released in
September, it would probably be late May/early June before Warner began officially distributing this sort of material to either retailers or the press.
So how "real" is this picture? Well, we honestly have no reason to doubt that it's accurate, but on the other hand it's not like this level of artwork is beyond a determined fan's ability to create with PhotoShop or other available tools. Having said that, though, it's quite possible that the DVD package art was provided to cast and crew of the show early, and that could be how it got to Collins' fan website. Still, with a release probably that far off, it's also good to keep in mind that the artwork - if really provided by the studio - has plenty of time to change!
It's also worth noting, too, that for the 3rd Season set of this same show,
we mentioned in a mid-May report that one online blog site dedicated to
Supernatural (a different one) had the DVD box art as early as April. So it wouldn't be the first time that packaging for this program showed up before the studio was ready! And the shot provided is completely in keeping with Warner's style.
Our thanks to reader Brandon Howarth for tipping us off about this picture. Below is a cropped "disc-less" version of the art shown at the Misha Collins Fan website; please visit over there to see the original version, and to participate in their conversation about it. And don't worry, because we'll let you know what the studio officially reveals about this release, once they feel like the time is right. As we said, that might be down the road a bit, so stay tuned!
