Waaay back in October of last year, we
passed along the rumor from our retail informants that Warner was planning to add some hi-def versions of
Superman: Doomsday to their release schedule, planning to put the direct-to-video feature out on both Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD formats on the same late-February day as the release of
Justice League: The New Frontier. As we all know, that never happened, and the reason probably had a lot to do with Warner's decision the following January to drop HD DVD support. But what about the Blu-ray version of
Superman: Doomsday? Whatever happened to it?
This morning our friends at ToonZone.net posted
a report out of Comic Con, which took place in San Diego this past weekend, about the panel for the DC Animation group. The report's primary focus, of course, was on the upcoming
Wonder Woman feature, starring the voices of
Felicity's Keri Russell (Diana/Wonder Woman),
Firefly's Nathan Fillion (Steve Trevor), Alfred Molina (Ares), Rosario Dawson (Artemis) and Virginia Madsen (Hippolyta). That comes out on DVD and Blu-ray in February 2009. But they ALSO wrapped up their brief report with some long-awaited news about the Blu-ray version of
Superman: Doomsday. Here's a quote:
Some news was revealed regarding the November 25th Blu-ray two-disc release of Superman: Doomsday. Extra features will include four bonus episodes of Superman the Animated Series hand-picked by Bruce Timm and 128 minutes worth of extra content.
That's terrific! We're going to go ahead and pencil that date in on our calendar for this release, but keep in mind that it could be subject to change (since the studio hasn't formally announced it yet). Stay tuned and we'll keep you updated! Our thanks to the folks over at ToonZone.net for the info, and for being great guys in any case. We really like 'em over there!
