BBC Video has announced the release of Last of the Summer Wine - Vintage 1977. This is the 4th season (or "series") of the show, following up on this past March's release of "Vintage 1976" (Series 3). For those of you who have lost track, other DVD sets previously put on the market include a 2003 release from BFS Entertainment, containing three episodes each from the first two seasons (along with a pair of the show's feature-length movies). And a 2004 DVD release from the BBC was titled "Vintage 1995," containing the entire 17th series of the show. The program recently finished its 28th season/series, and began airing over 35 years ago, keeping it on the books as the world's longest running sitcom ever!

This new 2-DVD set will cost $34.98 SRP. It arrives September 9th, with not only the episodes included but also a rare 1977 interview with show Creator/Writer Roy Clarke (who also created and wrote for Keeping Up Appearances, and who has been honored by being bestowed the Order of the British Empire, for his contribution to British comedy). The episodes are shown on the DVD as originally presented on air: full screen video, and English - Mono audio. There are also English subtitles included. Below you'll find the studio description of the release, followed by a look at the box's cover art:
The picturesque Pennine village of Holmfirth in the Yorkshire Dales is the setting for this vintage comedy, which first began life in 1973. This is Brontë country: miles and miles of unspoilt moorland, and a breath-taking backdrop to the antics of our aging delinquents and their demented friends. The year is now 1977 and Compo, Clegg, Foggy continue their gentle hijinks. An escaped ferret is just the beginning of the next series of adventures for the trio, as flower serenading, vegetable hunting, and Foggy's Silver Jubilee celebration keeps everyone fresh and hopping.
