Sony is gearing up to release
Stargate SG-1 in new, slimmer packaging. The current sets use 5 Amaray cases, and take up a whopping 2' of shelf space! The slim packaging will consist of 2 double-slimpacks, and 1 single case, and will measure 1", or 8" for all 8 seasons (that's 1/3 the size of the current sets). Here's a graphic Sony provided us illustrating the current sets compared to the
Stargate: Atlantis set;
Atlantis uses the new slim packaging:

The new packaging will be available on June 13, and each set will retail for $49.95 US.
Owners of the current sets may feel a tad frustrated after hearing about the packaging shift, especially since season 9 and 10 will be released in the new, slim packaging. We've already approached Sony and suggested they look into making the new packaging available to consumers. They seem open to the idea, but it's far from being approved. Hopefully they can find a way to make the new packaging available to fans that want it; we'll keep you updated with any news on this issue, but please don't assume this is guaranteed to happen.
