It may have all begun with the theatrical film
Stargate, but the television career of the franchise began with the
SG-1 pilot "Children of the Gods," cleverly picking back up where the original movie left off and introducing us to an entire new galaxy of worlds to visit, friends and enemies to relate to, and missions to go on. Today our retail contacts have found out that MGM and Fox Home Entertainment are revisiting that first television adventure with their
July 21st release of
Stargate SG-1 - Children of the Gods: The Final Cut.
The studio's write-up of this 90-minute release describes it as "
Re-mastered. Re-cut. Re-imagined. Remarkable! The thrilling pilot episode...with exclusive special features and masterful fine-tuning from series Co-Creator Brad Wright...(is) the ultimate realization of the series' iconic launch." Cost will be $26.98 SRP, and it includes Commentary by Brad Wright and a bonus Featurette. There will also be a trailer included about
Stargate Universe.
A side note here, to prevent fans of either show from possibly getting upset: the studio materials for retailers also describes the program as "
television's longest running Sci-Fi series," but that honor actually belongs to
Doctor Who, per the Guinness Book of Records organization. A 2006
BBC News story confirms this, and notes that
Stargate's Guinness record was for "longest-running science fiction show (consecutive)," after noting the 16-year break in regular
Doctor Who broadcasts..
