A week and a half ago we had the scoop about MGM's plans to release, through distributor Fox Home Entertainment, a high-definition Blu-ray Disc version of Stargate - The Ark of Truth. The DVD release of this direct-to-video feature has been available since March, and we had learned that a Blu-ray release would probably happen early in the new year. Now an Amazon pre-order listing that went up overnight confirms that this will be available on January 13th.
Cost is a bit less than we had expected, at $34.99 SRP. And you can lock in your copy at Amazon for even less: as of this writing they are pre-selling it for $25.95 after their discount (note that Amazon pricing is at their discretion, and can change without notice). The feature, which picks up where the regular weekly Stargate SG-1 storyline had left off at the end of the final (10th) season, will be presented in 1080p high definition widescreen video. Audio will be presented in English - 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio, and there are also options for French - 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish - 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtracks as well. Subtitles will support English, French and Spanish languages. In Canada, the release will cost CA$37.99 SRP.
The thumbnail-sized box art shown here was not provided by the studio, and may not represent the final packaging; we've included it to represent a probable version of what it would look like. Stay tuned for final package art, once MGM/Fox makes it available. Running time on this release is the same 102 minutes as the previous DVD release. Early information sent to retailers shows that the bonus material will be the identical extras provided on that DVD release:
- Commentary with Robert C. Cooper (Writer/Director/Producer), Christopher Judge ("Teal'c") and Peter Woeste (Director of Photography)
- The Ark of Truth: Stargate at Comic-Con
- Uncovering The Ark of Truth Featurette
- Stargate SG-1: The Road Taken - Prelude to Stargate: The Ark of Truth
