Boy, we sure heard from a number of our readers yesterday, after posting
posting early information that MGM and distributor Fox Home Ent. is releasing
Stargate: Atlantis - The Complete 5th Season on
June 30th. The complaints aren't about the title and date, of course; what's gotten everyone upset was the price!
We had passed along info from our retail source that the cost for this set would be $69.98 SRP, and fans couldn't understand why it was so high. So we looked into it further with our source, and as it turns out, fans were correct to grumble. The $69.98 price we passed along turns out to be the CANADIAN list price on this title. In the USA the cost will be a much-more-normal
$49.98 SRP, same as the previous sets. And Fox just shot us a note confirming this price, so consider that much of it "official" (even though the title hasn't been formally announced yet).
We hope everyone's breathing easier now! But in a way, it's a good thing, because our original source had also gotten in some additional information about the title for us in any case: details on the specs, and a bit of detail about some of the extras. Interested? We thought so! Here's what we know about this 5-disc set: as with each of the previous seasons, expect it to come with anamorphic widescreen video, and English - Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. English, French and Spanish subtitles are included, and there may also be some optional French and/or Spanish dubbed audio tracks, too. Running time is pegged at 1010 minutes. While we don't have full details about the bonus material yet (hopefully we'll get a press release soon), some of the Featurettes on board will be "Tricks of the Trade: Submerging the Stargate," "Dr. Jackson Comes to Atlantis," "
Stargate: Atlantis Goes to Vegas" and "Inside the
Stargate Costume Department". We hope that whets your appetite!
