We've said it before and we'll repeat it again:
The Digital Bits is a great site for nifty DVD news.
A case in point is this terrific news that Paramount will revisit the original
Star Trek series in box sets, once they get finished with
Voyager:
I've officially confirmed with Paramount that complete season box sets of Star Trek: The Original Series are in the planning stages for DVD release here in the States. However, you probably shouldn't expect them until after most of the work on the Star Trek: Voyager complete season DVDs is finished. Voyager is expected to be released, a season at a time, throughout 2004. I'm told that late 2004 is a possibility for TOS, but they might not be released until 2005. This is definitely going to happen, but it's early in the planning and plenty is still up in the air. So don't start warming up those phasers just yet.
This is great news for
Trek fans who got into DVD later in the game, when the 40 existing 2-episodes-per-disc releases were getting harder and harder to find in stores. While we say "bravo" to Paramount for getting into the TV-on-DVD game relatively early with these highly commendable releases, getting this show into an easier-to-handle package is the right thing to do. We only hope that they follow this with releases of
Star Trek: The Animated Series!
Again, thanks and kudos to Paramount for this great news, and to The Digital Bits for bringing it us.
