Our very good friend, Bill Hunt of "The Digital Bits" website, has alerted us to
a post he's made at his Rumor Mill column yesterday. In a startling write-up, he goes over the plans CBS/Paramount has started to prep the original
Star Trek series for Hi-Def releases on Blu-ray, HD-DVD, and other HD avenues including HD-TV syndication. Bill also mentions how close
Enterprise is to a Hi-Def release already, since it was shot with such a release possibility in mind (and it's already in widescreen, of course).
The startling part, though, is about how
The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and
Voyager could all be brought to Hi-Def as well...despite being finished on video, rather than on film. How? In a nutshell, taking the original effects-less film shots made of the cast interaction, and remaster that for HD and then re-finish it with new CGI special effects to the same specs as the original video special effects were made for the shows. And Bill hears tell that the studio could even apply this concept to the original series as well! Sound a bit scary? Maybe. Read Bill Hunt's write-up in its entirety at
