A week from today (August 5th), CBS/Paramount will release Star Trek - Season 2: Remastered DVD Edition
. With that in mind, along with the recent news
that the Alternate Realities
"fan collective" set would contain remastered episodes of the original series, including from the third season, fans can't help but wonder when the final season of "ST:TOS" would make it to DVD using the new remastered cuts of the classic episodes.
This morning CBS/Paramount answered the question, by announcing the November 18th
DVD release of Star Trek - Season 3: Remastered DVD Edition
. This new 7-disc set includes all 24 episodes from the final season of the original series, plus "collectible data cards and tons of bonus features
"...however, the studio hasn't clarified yet what those bonus features will be. Video is listed as Full Frame (1.33:1), and audio is available as English - Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, Spanish Mono and French Mono. Subtitles will be in English, Spanish and French. No other details were provided, but we DID manage to get our hands on a picture of the "sleek, collectible packaging" (as the studio describes it).
Please note that the artwork below is not provided to us from the studio; it came from confidential (but trusted) sources. However, it is NOT guaranteed to be the final package art for this release, and could possibly change quite substantially. It also looks a bit rough in places, so expect it to sharpen up a bit if this turns out to be what the studio uses:
A final note: there hasn't been any word yet on Blu-ray Disc versions of the three Remastered seasons of the original Star Trek. We're constantly on the lookout for info - or even rumors - about that, though, so stay tuned and we'll let you know!
