Star Trek - CBS/Paramount Makes it Official: Season 2 (Remastered) on DVD this August

No other significant details revealed so far, however

Posted by David Lambert
Several weeks ago we exclusively reported that - in the wake of the HD DVD format's demise - Star Trek - Season 2 (Remastered) would come to DVD format only, released on on August 5th. That was unofficial at the time, per an early alert to retailers. But this morning CBS DVD and Paramount Home Entertainment have made it official, with a public announcement showing that same exact street date.

A release of this title on Blu-ray Disc, which beat out HD DVD in the recently-ended hi-def format war, is probably in the works as well, but was not announced this morning. As of this date, Paramount has publicly committed to future home video releases in Blu-ray Disc format, but has yet to name any titles or timing for that.

The DVD release of the remastered original series' 2nd season will run 21 hours and 52 minutes. We know that bonus material has been worked on for this package, but it was not yet mentioned in the formal announcement this morning. Neither package art nor pricing is available yet, either, but stay tuned and we'll provide you with it as soon as we can.

The only other thing included in this morning's blurb, actually, was a description of the show that ends on quite a different note than I've ever heard anyone talk about the program in my 35+ years of being a self-described "Trekkie"! Check it out:
"Space...The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship, Enterprise. Its 5-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before !" The series is set in the 23rd century where Earth has survived World War III then moved on to explore the stars.
