Two days ago CBS DVD and Paramount Home Entertainment formally
announced the
August 5th release of
Star Trek - Season 2: Remastered DVD Edition. This "standard-def-only" release of the show's middle year came about after Toshiba discontinued the HD DVD format in February, making it unreasonable for CBS/Paramount to produce the remaining two seasons in "HD DVD and DVD Hybrid" format, such as the remastered first season set.
Now the studio has provided retailers with information about the pricing, bonus material and package art for this release, and our contacts in the retail industry have been kind enough to pass this along to us, to share with the fans!
This will be an 8-DVD set, priced at $99.99 SRP per the studio cost structure. Video is listed as Full Frame (1.33:1), and audio is available as English - Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, Spanish Mono and French Mono. Subtitles will be in English, Spanish and French.
Besides the 26 episodes from the classic Original Series' second season (all "
remastered" to have brighter, sharper and more vivid images and color, cleaner sound, enhanced CGI effects, and re-recorded theme music), the package will be loaded with these special features:
- Billy Blackburn's Never-Before-Seen On-Set Home Videos
- 9 Featurettes
- Bonus "Tribble" episodes:
- Star Trek: The Animated Series - "More Tribbles, More Troubles"
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - "Trials and Tribble-ations"
- Original Preview Trailers for Every Episode
Finally, the
Star Trek - Season 2: Remastered DVD Edition packaging itself for has been designed to be "
a sleek
collectible box consistent with that of Season 1" (compare the picture below with
the picture of the Star Trek - Season 1: HD DVD / DVD Combo Format package), and will include 4 collectible data cards similar to those included in the remastered first season set.
