A week ago we
reported that the already-released Blu-ray edition of
Star Trek - Season 1 was about to get new BD-Live downloadable content, including a sneak peek of the upcoming
Star Trek - Season 2 Blu-ray Disc release. The set features both original (as-aired) and remastered (for high-def audio and sound, including special effects) episodes from the show's second year.
That's when Walter Koenig joined the cast as "Chekov," and we saw such fan-favorite episodes as "The Trouble With Tribbles," "Amok Time," "Mirror, Mirror," "Journey to Babel," "The Doomsday Machine," "I, Mudd," "The Ultimate Computer," "Assignment: Earth" and "A Piece of the Action." Among the new BD-Live content available last week was this gem: "
roundtable discussions with special effects producers Mike and Denise Okuda, Dave Rossi and Neil Wray, as well as David Gerrold, Tribble inventor and writer of the fan-favorite 'Trouble with Tribbles' episode." Hopefully that means there will also be new bonus material featuring these names, that is coming for the Blu-ray release, and which is above and beyond what was including on the standard
DVD version of Season 2: Remastered.
We're still waiting on CBS/Paramount's official announcement for the
Star Trek - Season 2 Blu-ray Disc set, but this afternoon trade journal
Home Media Magazine revealed that the release date for this title is
September 22nd. They don't mention extras, but otherwise describe it as a 7-disc set with all 26 episodes, available to watch in either the original broadcast version or the remastered edition (and, like
Season 1 on BD, you can toggle between either version while viewing). The cost reported by
HMM's John Latchem is $116.99 SRP. They've got a small thumbnail of the cover art there, but it's the same thing as seen in the screen capture shown below.
Stay tuned for updates!
