Star Trek - Virgin Shoppers In New York City Can Buy Hi-Def Season 1, Get HD DVD Player FREE!

Would you like a free player with those HD DVDs? 150 lucky Trekkers who visit two New York City locations of Virgin Megastores will have that opportunity! As you know, this coming November 20th sees the release of Star Trek - Season 1 on 10 discs, which will be formatted for DVD on one side and high definition HD DVD on the other side. One of our longtime readers (and my longtime friend) Randy Duncan spotted a story at StarTrek.com announcing that the first 120 people to buy this set at Virgin's Times Square store will also get a free Toshiba HD DVD player valued at $299.99, and the same for the first 30 people to buy it at Virgin's Union Square location.

Additionally, the first 400 purchasers at Times Square (including the 120 HD DVD winners) will get a "Star Trek Goodie Bag" that includes a Tribble toy (from the second-season episode "The Trouble With Tribbles," written by The Martian Child author/Exec. Producer David Gerrold [go see it! - DL]), a free issue of Star Trek magazine and a vintage poster of the cast. The same goodie bag goes to the first 150 purchasers of the HD DVD Season 1 set at the Union Square store (including the 30 people who get the free HD DVD player).

Again, this happens only on Tuesday, November 20th, the street date for this new 10-disc set. The Times Square location opens at 9AM local time, and the Union Square store opens at 11AM local time. The info at StarTrek.com's story mentions rumors that "there may be Klingon sightings." If true, would this just be people in costumes as Klingons, or are there maybe going to be some actual actors from Trek episodes? No telling! But this should be a good party either way. So get there early, and be prepared to stand in line for this.
