As you already know, a high-definition Blu-ray Disc version of
Star Trek - Season 1 is on the way for release on
April 28th, just in time to tie in with the new theatrical film. The release will incorporate both the original as-broadcast versions of the first 29 episodes, plus the new "remastered" versions of these episodes with upgraded special effects and sound. Plus a ton of on-disc extras. But there's an additional bonus included with the set, and that's a mail-in offer for an exclusive "Sulu" action figure from Diamond Select Toys; you only pay shipping and handling.
Now CBS/Paramount have sent out sample scans of the insert for that offer, plus other insert cards which will be found in this 7-disc Blu-ray release. Below you'll see a picture of the Sulu offer, which reveals that this is an exclusive "blue-shirt" version of our officer as a physicist, as depicted in the early episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (before his permanent assignment as ship's helmsman).
As you can see, the bottom of this offer sheet also shows early package art for the eventual Blu-ray Disc releases of
Season 2 and
Season 3. We've got a close-up of that area of the scan, so you can get a better look at them. Note that the "G" rating symbol over the
Season 2 box applies to Canada, since these releases are for all of North America.
Next is a picture of the flip side of the Sulu offer card. It shows other items that are available from Diamond Select Toys (including a full-sized Captain's chair...wow!). Advertised at the bottom of it are the existing DVD season-set releases of
Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The bottom two pictures are for the
Star Trek edition of the
Scene It? DVD board game, which comes in two versions: a regular
"Captains" tin (that features Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway and Archer), and a harder-to-find
"Ships" tin (which features the various vessels commanded by the above-named Captains). The links above are to purchase them via a pair of Amazon-associated listings; you can find out more about the game by reading the info and watching the trailer
at the Scene It? website. Engage!
UPDATE (3/5): Some of you wondered what, if anything, was on the flip side of the "Scene It?" card. We didn't know at first, but now the studio has provided the image that we've added to the bottom. It shows a
Star Trek "D-A-C" game, to be made available in May. Hope this satisfies everyone curiosity!
