Back in late May we
had the scoop with the first-ever look at the
November 21st release date of
Star Trek: The Animated Series on DVD. Ever since then, we've been watching folks make posts at the message boards around the 'net, happy that this is coming, but wondering what the cost will be.
This morning John Latchem of
Home Media Retailing trade magazine has the answer for you, in
his article "The Last Frontier". There, Latchem tells us:
Paramount Home Entertainment will release all 22 episodes of Star Trek: The Animated Series in a $35 four-disc set Nov. 21, making it the last "Star Trek" property to receive an official DVD release.
Great news indeed! The 22-episode count means we'll get the complete series, too! The story doesn't indicate if "$35" is the suggested retail price (SRP, or "list price", or if it instead is the discounted "street price" after retailers mark it down. Still, either way it's a pretty good price for all 22 half-hour episodes of the Emmy-winning animated show that Filmation (
He-Man) produced, especially considering that fans were worried it would be around a $100 list price!
Filmation's Lou Scheimer talks in the
HMR article about how the show almost didn't come about, and there's more interesting stuff in Latchem's story to read, so click on the link above and check it out. We're still waiting on the official info from Paramount, including final cover art, but for now here's a second look at the "key art" that Paramount intends to use in designing the packaging for this highly anticipated release (yes, we know that the boots look funny and the ship looks like the movie version, so please don't send us more e-mails about that!):
