Two weeks ago we
reported that Amazon had put up a pre-order listing for
Spin City - Season 1 on DVD, showing a release set for November 4th. Since then the listing has been removed from Amazon, with no explanation, but we hear from our industry sources that the release IS still in the works.
In fact, we've been told by an anonymous industry source to expect all 24 half-hour episodes from the first season to arrive on a 4-disc set. We've also heard from this source that there will be various extras as well, including commentary tracks by Michael J. Fox and others, some featurettes that include a behind-the-scenes "Making Of" piece, plus a PSA (public service announcement) about Parkinson's Disease. Bear in mind, please, that these items are all just rumors right now, and have not been announced by any studio. Anything can change, including (and probably ESPECIALLY) that release date, so take it all with a grain of salt until the studio makes it official.
And what studio is that? In our previous report, we said that the studio name mentioned at the Amazon listing was "Uni Dist Corp (Music)", but that it was a stand-in for the folks at Shout! Factory, who UMG/Vivendi distributes to retail for. However, they also distribute for other companies as well, of course, and more lately we've been told that it may or may not be Shout! after all. Nobody at Shout! is saying, naturally, and frankly we're not sure if we should ask just yet...especially since the Amazon listing has been removed. So we're going to let this kettle boil a bit more, and follow up later with an update when we find ourselves on firmer ground. Stay tuned!
