We've been telling you since last February (and even had cover art and screen shots for you
this past June) about the "Winter 2004" release of a
Spider-Man - The Venom Saga DVD release.
Now, the forces of evil have conspired to compel Buena Vista to pull this title from their schedule, at least for now. After one of our faithful readers, Walt Davis, spotted
this post at ToonZone.net, he frantically wrote to me asking if it was true. Well, I frankly believe anything that ToonZone's Jim Harvey reports...he's proven to be very reliable. Nevertheless, I fired off a quick note to the studio, who verifies: "
The title has been indefinitely postponed. We don't have a new release date yet. "
Walt, our alert reader, naturally is quite disappointed when I replied and told him that it was true. I don't blame him; as he says, it's quite frustrating when a title is announced early, and then delayed near the end of the expected wait. This just points up the reasons why it's not too good to get your heart set on these early heads-ups: no matter how "official" they are (and this one had cover art, disc art, etc.), something can always come up at the last minute to change the studio's plans. Buena Vista didn't elaborate on the reasons, but I'm sure it's the usual: some legal hassle perhaps, or a too-tight schedule for a needed resource, or perhaps the change is to take advantage of a better marketing opportunity that's coming up later on. Who knows? Not I, but at this time I'm quite confident we'll see this title on down the road. Stay tuned!
