Before Edgar Wright had directed films like
Hott Fuzz and
Shaun of the Dead, he directed the cult British television program
Spaced. Earlier this month the U.K. version of the Rotten Tomatoes website posted
an interview with Wright, which you'll mainly find in the form of a downloadable podcast (currently about a third of the way down the page we just linked you to).
At about the 47 minute mark of the hour-long podcast, Wright is just finishing up explain why an American-made version of
Spaced wouldn't do as well as the different versions of, say,
The Office, and says (warning: strong language) that he really doesn't want to be a part of a version of his show centered in Malibu. He's talking about how American fans supported this stance, and goes on to say this about Region 1 DVDs of the original UK version of the show:
...I think, probably, it showed, then, that there are actually more Spaced fans in the US than they thought there were. And finally, as well, its going to come out on DVD in the States. Like, you know, next year, so that's really good!
The interviewer briefly interjects a comment on this being good news, and Wright immediately follows up with a very quick word saying that he believes the original music would be included on such a release. Great news for North American fans of the show!
Our thanks to reader Jim Vincent for letting us know about the podcast, and where in the interview this info can be found. There's no additional info yet, and no date of course. Wright says "next year", and this interview was posted mid-January, so we're expecting that it probably means later this year. That's just a guess, though. Stay tuned and we'll follow up as soon as we know more!
